Star of Life Ambulance Certification Testing Program

Intertek has developed a program giving Final Stage Ambulance Manufactures (FSAMs) access to an independent test lab to fulfill all of the requirements for testing, inspection and certification to the Federal Triple K spec (KKK-A-1822-F), from a single provider. Third party verification gives manufactures a competitive advantage in the marketplace with one vendor managing their certification requirements. This creates streamlined processes, reduces costs and ensures to the government and purchasers that vehicles meet or exceed all requirements.

FSAMs are obligated to certify to the government and purchasers that ambulances bearing the “Star of Life”, their components and equipment meet or exceed all of the requirements in the Triple K spec. Compliance for a Star of Life label is defined as certification backed by confirmed verifications of inspections and tests.  Section 4.3.3 of the spec indicates that “initial testing and inspections required for certification shall be performed by a nationally recognized independent testing facility.”  As an independent test lab, Intertek is qualified to conduct construction reviews, inspections and testing called out in the spec, including:

  • Vehicle, Ambulance Components, Equipment & Accessories
  • Vehicle Operation, Performance & Physical Characteristics
  • Chassis, Power Unit & Components
  • Electrical System & Components
  • Lighting, Exterior & Interior
  • Environmental:  Climactic and Noise Parameters
  • Communications Equipment
  • Additional Systems, Equipment, Accessories & Supplies
