Life Safety Products Testing and Certification

Intertek offers a comprehensive range of testing and certification services for both residential and commercial fire/burglar alarms, smoke and CO detectors, personal protective equipment (PPE), as well as locks and electrified access control systems. This provides manufacturers with a choice in their testing and certification program.

For more than a century we’ve tested and certified products for electrical safety and performance. Our pedigree is supported by accreditations and recognitions from ANSI, SCC, OSHA, and SEI, and our ETL Listed mark is recognized and accepted by state and local fire marshals and AHJs across North America.

• Fire/Burglar Alarms: tested and certified to applicable UL, ULC, ANSI, and SIA standards, such as UL 464, UL 864 9th Edition, UL 985, and many more. We are currently certifying complete fire panels to UL 864 9th.
• Smoke/CO/Gas Alarms and Detectors: tested and certified to applicable UL, ULC and ANSI standards, such as UL 217, UL 268, UL 2034, and UL 1484.
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Firefighter bunker gear, hazmat suits, ballistic resistance, athletic equipment and more to applicable ASTM and NFPA standards such as NFPA 1851 and NFPA 1971. Intertek is a preferred testing laboratory for the Safety Equipment Institute (SEI).
• Locks and Access Control Products: UL 294 testing and certification, fire testing, Hurricane/ Tornado resistance, performance testing (BHMA), structural testing, electrical testing
• Ambulance Components and Equipment: Intertek is your single solution for Star of Life Certification as specified in Section 4.4.3 of the Triple K
• Central Stations and Alarm Service Company Programs: Assisting the Fire and Security Industries in their efforts to implement and maintain the highest levels of alarm system reliability.
